COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges, anxiety, and loss. It is often our natural tendency to focus on the negative that comes our way, but social psychologists have been studying a skill called savoring which is the “capacity to attend to, appreciate, and enhance the positive experiences in one’s life” (Bryant & Veroff, 2012). Research has shown that by being mindful, tuning in, and feeling grateful for what we do have can improve our well-being. With now weeks of quarantine under our belts, we thought it would be worth asking the question: What can we savor? Is the sun finally coming out in your hometown? Is there a new recipe you have found and now love? Or are you about to turn in your last exam and extend a sigh of relief? These moments, while seemingly small, can add up to have a large effect.
